All of the State Preschool sites are licensed by Community Care Licensing, Department of Social Services. Our programs offer a rich classroom environment with well-qualified teachers. The program works together with families to create an active learning environment. Parent participation is an important part of the success of the State Preschool program. Families are encouraged to apply at the school site in their community. State Preschool services are provided at no cost to families that meet State income guidelines. Welcome Our State Preschools are funded through the California State Department of Education, Child Development Division and are administered by the Mendocino County Office of Education, Child Development Services (MCOE). Our Mission We believe that a high quality early childhood program provides a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and creative development of young children while responding to the needs of families and our community. We maintain an open-door policy where parents have the right to enter the preschool classroom at any time during operating hours. Our Program To ensure a high quality program, we offer a well-planned, developmentally, linguistically and culturally appropriate curriculum based on individual needs of children. We recognize the importance of the classroom as a Learning Community, where all are included and valued. Our program provides information to local services and organizations as well as solicits goods and services from local businesses. Supporting young children in the preschool environment includes accepting and being responsive to differing abilities and interests. Several preschool sites are full inclusion sites. These sites provide appropriate services where children with disabilities co-exist with their typically developing peers. Please contact your local school for days and hours of operation. Our preschool programs provide services to 3 and 4 year old children who meet the income guidelines established by the California Department of Education, Child Development Division (CDE/CDD). ADMISSION FOR PRESCHOOL IS NOT GIVEN ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. A "3" year old child is defined as a child who turns 3 on or before December 2nd of the current program year. A "4" year old child is defined as a child who turns 4 on or before December 2nd of the current program year. Enrollment is determined by admission priorities set by CDE/CDD in the following order: Children referred by Child Protective Services or children who are at risk of being neglected, abused or exploited. Income eligible 4 year old children, lowest income first Income eligible 3 year old children, lowest income first When two or more families have the same income, the family that has a child with exceptional needs shall be admitted first If none of the families with the same income ranking has an exceptional needs child, the family that has been on the eligibility list the longest shall be admitted first This program does not discriminate on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, gender, ethnic group identification, race, ancestry, national origin, religion, color or mental or physical disability.
