Mission

The mission of the Mendocino County Child Care Planning Council is to:

• Provide leadership in identifying child care and development needs, priorities and resources,
  
• Promote accessible affordable, quality child care and development services,
• Collaborate and advocate for policy change and local capacity building, and
  
• Educate the community about child care and development issues
  

Vision

We envision a "universal access" child care and development system that reflects the needs and desires of the community.  All families will have quality child care options that are affordable, accessible, dependable and culturally appropriate. We also envision a high quality "seamless" system of child care and development for children and families in Mendocino County that includes:

• Parental choice, such as subsidized care, private for-profit and private non-profit care, employer-sponsored care, and kinship care
• A highly trained, culturally diverse workforce that receives a worthy wage 
• Local child care and development services that surpass licensing standards and are:
  

• Healthy and safe
  
• Reliable
  
• Developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate
• Family-friendly and aware of family needs

We envision a blend of existing and new resources that enhances child care and development quality and accessibility including:

• Staff development and education
• Early intervention for children with special needs and their families
• Community resources for families
• Technical assistance and training for new and existing programs
• Facility resources
• Transportation options

Funding Priorities by Zip Code

Under contract with the California Department of Education (CDE) Child Development Division, the Child Care Planning Council (CCPC) is required to set funding priorities by zip code areas.  As grant funds originated from the State for the development or expansion of child development services, applications for funding can be made in any priority number, but are reviewed in order of their designated priority.  Signed zip code priorities are due to CDE May 30 annually.
